Langkawi Tiga – Skycab, Skybridge and 3D Art!

20th February, 2019

Well, as promised here we are again and I will now try to cover our rather excellent trip to the main attraction of Langkawi, the SkyCab cable car and the SkyBridge which you can visit once you are up the mountain and the 3D Art Museum, which you can visit once you are at the bottom again.

First we boarded the cable car or SkyCab…

I am glad we didn’t have to walk!

Kereta Kabel as they say in Malay! (Cable car to the rest of us)

Once at the top you arrive at one stop, can get out and enjoy the views and then reboard the cable car and swing your way across to the other viewing spot. The views are spectacular (it is worth getting there early to avoid the crowds (and the queues)). It was a little hazy when we visited, but still very good.

Happily, the forests are protected.

You can then descend to the SkyBridge either by walking down (and up!) the 300 steps or by going down in the inclinator or funicular. Guess which we did. The bridge serves no apparent purpose other than scaring anyone who does not like heights or giving great views and being able to marvel at what you hope is a wonder of engineering. There were moments when we were wondering just how many people could be on it at one time!

SkyBridge, Langkawi. It has a rather attractive curve to it.

I don’t feel this really does it justice, but you get the idea, I hope.

It is in a very spectacular location, as you can see.

Val checking out just how far down terra firma is!

We had an excellent time at the top, but eventually it was time to descend and we headed for another attraction that was included with the basic ticket, which was the 3D Art Museum. It does seem rather incongruous and I have to admit to some doubts as to how good it would be, but in the end it was really rather good fun and only a limit to the number of photos I can have on this blog prevents me from showing you the myriad of opportunities there are to pose rather self-consciously in some surreal background. The first thing you encounter are some of the usual mind-boggling pictures that play tricks with the brain. A sample or two…

Don’t look at this for too long!

Or this one!

You then go through a number of large rooms with various paintings that have a 3D effect into which you can position yourself and have your photo taken!

Not quite the costume of an angel, but pretty convincing otherwise!

There are a lot more from where those came from if you want to see some! One last one I rater liked was this:

Clever, eh?

So a good day out and Val survived all the walking etc which is the best news ever. We had a quiet day the next day (yesterday), but I decided to have another go at beating the living daylights out of the golf course and booked another round today. The golf was not particularly better or worse, but Val came along for the ride and did take a few photos, which might amuse you. This is a very select 3 from about 40 she took with my clever camera of my attempt to get the ball on the green for once.

It ended up just on the edge of the green if you were wondering – and I fluffed the chip and two putted!

OK, that brings us up to date other than to mention that it has actually rained today – the first rain we have seen since leaving England on 3rd January!

And posting this means two posts in one day, which must be a record!

  1. Well the golf looks pretty impressive to me, However, as you know, “I know nothing!”. Should I be hiding behind my hands and peeking between my fingers? So glad to see you on your feet again Val! Great news. Mind you, how you can look down from the skywalk – indeed, how you can actually be on it ????!!!! Wonderful photos though – I agree the view from the top is spectacular!
